When the designers first got their challenge, I was worried. Having to make an innovative design with materials from various Saturns (the vehicles not the planet) worried me a bit. I thought we would be gifted with shapeless designs with everyone incorporating seat belts. But I was very pleasantly surprised. While it might take a few G&T's to give me the courage to wear these, I thought the designers did a fantastic job.
Jerrell's fantastic two-piece of suede and metal pieces, Korto's stunning coat shaped w/ seat belts, and Leanne's fringe and leather mini all looked ready for prime time. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I agree that Leanne's was both innovative and beautiful.
I am weary of tagging this post with the word "fashion." Seriously, this season of PR is leaving MUCH to be desired. Now, don't get me wrong, I love drag queens...the drama, the transformations, the sparkles! But this week's challenge fell flat - again. Note to Bravo: No more bad TV characters, athletes and men. Please?
Here are the two designs that I thought were worthy of their models: 1. Design by Terri (who was totally robbed!) - this looked fierce on TV...not just "trying-to-be-like Christian-Siriano-fierce" but truly one-of-a-kind. 2. Design by Leann - loved the styling and the thought that went into the construction.
I took a little break from my camera this weekend, but promise some new stuff next week! Instead I would like to share some work by my veeeery talented friend, Jamie Watson. She just opened up her new Etsy store called Coco Bohemia which is filled with her fantastic monotypes, prints and cards. I have always been inspired by her use of color and the heart she puts into her work.
The work (and the cool styling of her product shots) speaks for itself:
Of all the trips to the Disneyland, this was the happiest one yet! Here are some of my favorite images from a weekend with my nephews, their parents, and my parents:
What is happening here? This season better pick up the pace in coolness, or else! This week, the designers were paired up to create a look for Brooke Shields to wear on Lipstick Jungle. I don't watch that show, so I wasn't too inspired by this challenge. Neither were the designers, apparently. Here were the top two designs (there were only 6 to choose from!):
Design by Keith and Kenley....which looked fantastic on the small screen...love the circles of fabric creating a fringed looking skirt. And another two piece look by Korto and Joe. I really liked the choice of color (which would look great on Brooke) and the lovely ribbon detail along the placket.
Dude, I'm not a fan of athletes showing up on PR. Remember Tiki Barber? This week the challenge came from Apollo Anton Onno (of Dancing with the Stars fame. Oh yeah, he speed skates too).
The designers had two days to come up with a uniform for the American women to wear at the opening ceremonies. I love love love the opening ceremonies, so was a tad disappointed with the results. Here are the stand-outs: Terri's design had it all - nipped in pinstripe blazer, sassy scarf and tuxedo-striped pants! She was robbed! Leanne's design was clean and would show off the athletes toned arms and legs? Cute shoes, too!
I'm all about Keith's skirt. Ditch those shoes. And Suede's look is ready for cocktail hour - how can you not love it?
Today is brought to you by the letter "P." First pants (see below) and now pillows are on the brain. In an attempt to stylify the apartment, I'd like to punch up the khaki and gray colors that my bf likes to decorate with (hi honey!). These options range from kitschy to modern to bold...and I love them all!
My problemo: I am totally drawn to dresses lately. Maybe it's the fact that I was in hot weather for like 3 days straight; but I have completely forgotten how chilly No. California really is the moment the sun goes down. It's not right (especially for this desert-raised Texan).
Anyway...I need to find some cute pant looks to inspire me those chilly morning as I dress for work days. What do you think of these? I'm totally taking suggestions for other pants ensembles, too! Love bright colored pants - either with a simple tee or a flouncy top. [Jcrew Tee, Jcrew Chino, Forever 21 Blouse]
I'm fond of the look of these skinny cords with dressy/preppy tops. [BCBG Patterned Jersey , Urban Outfitters Cords, Jcrew Arqyle sweater vest and top]
Standard black wool trousers make a impact with unexpected shirts. [Forever 21 Buffalo Check shirt, Banana Republic wool pants, Forever 21 Tribal motif top]
This week's challenge found the designers shooting pics of New York at night to find inspiration for their next garment. I only wish the final products were nearly as interesting as the photos. It was a weak outcome, but there were still three dresses that caught my eye. Take a look:
Left: One of a kind patterned dress w/ purple tulle(!) by Kenley who is my pick to win this thing; Middle: a simple but beautiful set of seperates by Leanne, Right: The lovely flamenco-reminiscent gown by Jerell who is kindof getting glossed over in the editing in favor of annoyances like Blake and Suede.
