So...the sandals I posted yesterday (see below) were not available in my size, and a little bit out of my price range. Then, by the grace of blog, I came across these:
I can't wear dangly earrings...just studs. But if I could, I would totally snap up these pieces by Modern Trinkets. Nice bonus: they are under $15 a pair.
This is a trend I can stand behind: tulip skirts. I love the blousy shape that was seen at more than a few Resort 2010 shows.
Here are my favorite examples: Bold looks by Jason Wu and Narciso Rodriguez. Basic looks by 3.1 Philip Lim and ADAM Brazen looks by Alexander Wang and Donna Karan
The resort collection that Brian Reyes offered last week has amazing shape and pattern. Both the dresses and the casual looks are perfection. Here are my favorite pieces:
If you are remotely intrigued by fashion and the high-glamour crowd that surrounds the fashion world, I highly suggest you take a peek at Jak & Jil Blog. The photographer, Tommy Ton chronicles the fashion and the fashionable outside the doors of fashion shows. And writes "HERE AT JAK & JIL, EVERYDAY IS FASHION WEEK."
I am the first to admit, a $700 t-shirt is not a realistic "investment item" for my wardrobe...no matter what InStyle and Vogue would like us to believe.
The writer of my new favorite blog, Celebrity Looks for Less, gets it. She takes celebrity ensembles, breaks 'em down, and offers us normal fashion folks, attainable options. Like so:
The Met's Costume Institute Gala is everything the fashion world (and I!) wishes the Oscars red carpet could be. More daring, more fashion-focused, more innovative. Here are some of my favorite images from the 2009 event last night:
Rise and Shine January Jones in Michael Kors; Anja Rubin in Balmain Alex Wek (unknown design); Isabeli Fontana in Calvin Klein Collection
I'm with the Designer Jessica Alba with Jason Wu; Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson with Stella McCartney
Missing the Marc Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson with Marc Jacobs, Winona Ryder and Victoria Beckham all in designs by Marc Jacobs.
Modern Love Eva Longoria in Diane Von Furstenberg; Katy Perry in Tommy Hilfiger
So Bad It's Good ? Leighton Meester and Madonna in Louis Vuitton
Hottest Mamas Heidi Klum in J Mendel; Michelle Alves in Marchesa
Subtle Chic Ivanka Trump in Brian Reyes; Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera
Male Call Rihanna in Dolce and Gabbana; Lake Bell in Rag & Bone
If my friend Alyssa wins the Lottery like we planned, as her Personal-In-House-Stylist I will heartily suggest we buy up every look in Collette Dinnigan's Fall 2009 collection. Check it out:
And I would wear these as part of her entourage: All images via Style.com
Ran across this outstanding beautiful image by Ormond Gigli. The photographer was inspired by the brownstones getting demolished in his neighborhood, and immortalized the building with dozens of women in "their finest attire." Shouldn't this be recreated some way? Or has it been?
My jaw dropped when I saw just a peek of the Salma Hayek wedding that took place in Venice. Salma wore Balenciaga for the ceremony, and a traditional Venetian mask for the rehearsal event.
Charlize Theron and Lily Cole navigating the water taxi steps. Anna Wintour and Stella McCartney turned it out. Images from Huffington Post
I was lucky enough to be in Venice during Carnival 2006...maybe I could have slipped in the kitchen door...
Twelve days stand between me and a girls trip to Maui. On the agenda: lounging on the beach, sitting by the pool, reading at least three books, and sipping many a Malibu and Pineapple. My dream wardrobe would contain the following from the Spring 2009 collections:
Fashion Week in Milan offered many fantastic shows, but the standouts for me were these references to art and artists.
Blumarine Any nod to Andy Warhol that looks this good should be admired.
D&G Like wearing an opera (from the costumes to the signage) out on the town. Etro The unexpected colors and intricate detail mirror the artistry of royal furnishings.
Dolce and Gabbana Who couldn't appreciate photography of Hollywood's muse, Marilyn Monroe?
I'm on a little 40-day clothing embargo...and it's tough. Nearly as tough as giving up cookies as a kid. To add insult to injury, I'm headed to Las Vegas for a family girls trip, which will have endless amounts of temptations. In an effort to avoid succumbing to those inviting stores and sale signs, I offer up these finds to you instead of clicking the "add to shopping cart" myself!
Quiet tones @ Jcrew: Silk Cami, $79.99 and Chambray Skirt, $29.99 I typically stay away from pastels b/c of my olive coloring, but these all sing of spring to me. Psst...you can always find a plethora of coupon codes and info here at JCrew Aficionada
Abaete @ Shopbop "Ysabel" Dress, $112, "Carolyn" Dress, $297, "Abigail" Dress, $139 Last night, the ladies of ANTM got to model some fantastic pieces by this designer...so lucky! I'm a fan of this line, and love the cut and details of each of these dresses...but I would shorten the hem on the first one!
London fashion shows always have many looks that surprise and delight. So unexpected and forward-looking, here are photos from my favorite shows from last week.
The ladies of Oscar night delivered. Many beautiful gowns, displaying a wide range of looks, reached the high expectations we have of the night. What do you think?
Winning looks on the Winning actresses: Penelope Cruz in vintage Balmain and Kate Winslet in Yves Saint Laurent
Ethereal Couture: Marion Cotillard and Sarah Jessica Parker in Christian Dior Haute Couture
Modernity at it's best: Halle Berry in Marchesa and Marisa Tomei in Versace Atelier
Luxe Layered Looks:
Taraji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli and Miley Cyrus in Zuhair Murad
Bold Shoulder Baring Brights:
Natalie Portman in Rodarte and Amy Adams in Carolina Herrera
Here is a small peek of some of the fantastic backstage photos from NY Fashion Week. The photos speak for themselves...but wouldn't it be phenomenal to be there to feel the energy?
See these and more photos at the great fashion blog, Crave.
Going over the photographs of NY Fashion Week for Fall 2009, I see a lot to look forward to even in these financially trying times. While not typically a huge fan of the DKNY line, I thought the collection was inspired and inspiring for office grunts like me. Black with bold primary colors combined with an elongated pencil silhouette is certainly a trend I can work with:
