An Afternoon at the Museum

Recently I had the pleasure of dashing about New York City with my favorite girls.

One of the highlights of any trip to New York is to a visit the Museum of Modern Art. I love rediscovering old favorite pieces and artists, and being exposed to new favorites.

Rest In Peace, Coosje van Bruggen

Cupid's Span , San Francisco, installed in 2002 and Free Stamp, Cleveland, Ohio, installed in 1991

Artist Coosje van Bruggen, wife and longtime collaborator of Claus Oldenberg, died of breast cancer at the age of 66. She will be missed, but not forgotten. For her work is unforgettable.

Art Inspiration: The Art Institute of Chicago

The Art Institute of Chicago is a true hallmark of an outstanding museum. Despite the fact that many pieces were not available to view on account of major building projects, my friends and I enjoyed our time in this fantastic place. Here are some highlights:

The celebrities (my friends and I gasped when we saw these - like teenage girls at a whispery NKOTB show)

George Seurat, Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, 1884-1886
The enormity and the detail of this piece was stunning.


Edward Hopper, The Nighthawks, 1942
The scene pulls you in and it's difficult to walk away from this diner.


Grant Wood, American Gothic, 1930
So iconic. I really like that the daughter is so prim but has a tendril falling out of place.


Mary Cassat, The Child's Bath, 1893
Serene and beautiful.

New favorite:

Elizabeth Sparhawk Jones, The Shoe Shop, 1911
I love the intensity of the buyer and the seller's faces and the hustle bustle of the store.

Artist of Note: Jamie Watson

I took a little break from my camera this weekend, but promise some new stuff next week! Instead I would like to share some work by my veeeery talented friend, Jamie Watson. She just opened up her new Etsy store called Coco Bohemia which is filled with her fantastic monotypes, prints and cards. I have always been inspired by her use of color and the heart she puts into her work.
