Project Runway: Week 10

So, the designers are being whittled down in numbers, and one would think this would mean we are down to the creme de la creme of Project Runway stylishness.  But one would be wrong.  This week our peeps had to design for recent grads transitioning to the working world.  While most managed to avoid a Melanie Griffith/Working Girl look, I was still far from amazed.  But here are two designs that inspired me to take a closer look at my own work attire:

Korto's design of a bright green (!) print and versatile jacket was fresh in a very accessible way for new-to-the-workforce ladies.  The day to night potential of this look is also a plus. (Cute shoes!)

And Jerell's three piece modernized the classic shape of a pencil skirt and little shell w/ the addition of the long cardigan.  I think a nice wide belt (in Stella "leatha") cinching it all in would really add a lot to this look.

Emmy Fashion: First Impressions

I totally love awards nights. Here are some of my favorite gowns from the 2008 Emmy red carpet:
Christina Applegate and Olivia Wilde both in Reem Acra

Heidi Klum and Kristen Chenoworth both in Armani Prive

Terri Hatcher in Monique Lhullier, Mariska Hargitay in Carolina Herrera

Nicolette Sheridan in Angel Sanchez, Kate Walsh in Zuhair Murad

Vanessa Williams in Kevan Hall, Sandra Oh in Oscar de la Renta

Fashion Friday: Part Deux

I'm new to the Jonathan Saunders bandwagon. But isn't this collection of pieces outstanding?

In one word: vivid.

Fashion Friday, Part 1: A Classic

The New York Fall Ready-to-wear collections for Spring '09 were stunningly beautiful. I thought it fitting to show a "old" favorite and a "new" favorite designer in two posts. Let me know what you think.

Carolina Herrera produces season after season of instant classics that make me so psyched to be a girl. Just LOOK:

The details are always impecable and unexpected...check out the wisps on the black dress that dance near the hem, and those black ribbons so finely placed on the right.

And these sweetheart necklines feminize the tough-girl black fabric.

The belt detail and short sleeves on the left are a beautiful nod to classic glamour, while the blue gown with yellow sash and ruffles show that a casual touch can be employed in a very charming way for evening.

Photo Monday: Chihuly at the de Young

The Chihuly exhibit at the deYoung museum in San Francisco was pure eye candy. Here are a few images from my day exploring the exhibit with friends:

Fashion Friday/NY Fashion Week: Carlos Miele

Any moment I've had this week, I've been peeking at the runway shots from New York Fashion Week for Spring 2009.  These photos keep me inspired and excited for spring all through the next few seasons just as the Fall 2008 photos kept me psyched for the chill in the air that is about to come.

I must share this absolute stand out of a show done by the wonderous Carlos Miele.  Enjoy!

Project Runway: Week 8

Now THIS was a great challenge! The designers got to 1) use real fabric, 2) design for a women, 3) had a classic movie-themed inpiration (Deitrich's A Foreign Affair), and 4) got to work with DIANE VON FURSTENBERG! I could barely contain myself with glee as I watched this ep.
Here are the design highlights
:

First we have Leanne's evening gown and shrunken trench coat look. The juxtoposition of textures while being simple in shape was what gave her the victory.

Korto's ensemble used one of my all-time favorite DVF patterned fabrics, so I had to give her a nod here. If the skirt had more length w/ a bit of a train, I might have picked this as my winner.

Etsy: Inspired by feathers

I just think this vintage-inspired look that is so lovely, I had to share it. Somewhat like '20's "facinators," this Etsy designer, Vie Modern, uses headbands to make the look more up-to-date and so unique.

Check out her shop for more cute styles.

Fall Fashion: Dream Job

September is here and that always makes me think of new school clothes. Now, I'm years and years from back-to-school supply shopping, but that doesn't mean it's not a great time to be inspired for work clothes.
Remember: Dress for the job you want, not the one you have. Job I want: photo editor for Elle Decor.
